OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 14 medical/EMS, two fire related, three motor vehicle accident, one public assist, three false alarm and one canceled call between Jan. 11 and Jan. 17.
• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 118 medical/EMS, 13 motor vehicle accidents, seven fire related, nine dispatch and cancel, four aircraft standby and 10 miscellaneous calls last week. Of 121 possible transports, 20 were refused.
• On Jan. 17, OCFR responded to a call regarding unauthorized burning at approximately 5:15 a.m. in the 7700 block of Southeast Eighth Street. When they arrived, they found a 30 x 40 burn pile fully involved in flame. The crew remained on the scene until the arrival of the Florida Forest Service.
• On Jan. 17, OCFR responded to a call regarding a natural vegetation fire in the 43000 block of U.S. 441 North at approximately 9:30 p.m. The call was a call-back from the previous day when a large field had been burned for land clearing. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and the area was still smoldering, but there were no flames or smoldering outside of the plow line. A small tree was found to be on fire within the plow line and was extinguished. Due to the large area that was smoldering, there was nothing else they could do about the situation.
• On Jan. 18, OCFR responded to a call regarding a brush fire in the 16600 block of Northwest 268th Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found approximately 2-acres on fire. A travel trailer was also on fire. They were able to extinguish the fire in the trailer. The Forest Service arrived and put a plow line around the fire. The fire burned a total of 4 acres before it was extinguished.
