OKEECHOBEE -- An Okeechobee man died early Sunday morning in after the car he was driving struck a tree.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, around 2:17 a.m. on Feb. 3, Alfredo Renteria, 21, was driving a 2016 Honda Accord westbound on Northwest 36th Street approaching a left curve near Northwest 39th Circle, when the driver failed to negotiate the curve and the vehicle traveled straight off the roadway.
The car struck a guardrail and then traveled onto a residential property, striking a tree head on, the FHP report continues.
According to the FHP report, Mr. Renteria was transported to Raulerson Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jewel Lagunas, 18, was seriously injured in the crash. She was transported to Raulerson Hospital.
According to the FHP report, neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
