OKEECHOBEE — An Okeechobee man was killed Friday evening while riding an E-bike on U.S. 441.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the accident happened at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Dec. 29 on U.S. 441 just north of 96th Street.
A 53-year-old Okeechobee woman was driving an SUV headed south on U.S. 441. A 57-year-old Okeechobee man was riding an E-bike on the southbound paved shoulder of the road. The woman told troopers the E-bike kept getting closer to the white lane marker, and she slowed down to move to her left, but just as she did this, the man turned left, directly into her path. She told officers she was unable to avoid hitting him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
