Dr. Christine Brennan Bishop of Brennan Eye Care was named the Local Society Optometry Member of the Year by the Florida Optometric Association during its 124th Annual Convention held in Tampa. The prestigious honor recognizes an optometrist who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and dedication to advancing the profession and is awarded based on nominations from fellow optometrists.
The award is especially meaningful for the Brennan family, as Dr. Bishop follows in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Pat Brennan, who received the same recognition 12 years ago. Together, they represent a legacy of service and commitment to improving eye care for the people of Okeechobee and communities across Florida.
As the owner of Brennan Eye Care, Dr. Bishop is known not only for providing compassionate patient care but also for her leadership within organized optometry and her dedication to serving the Okeechobee community. Her commitment extends well beyond the walls of her practice.
A servant leader, Dr. Bishop has become a respected advocate for both her profession and her patients. Last year, she testified before Florida legislators on behalf of the Florida Optometric Association to support legislation aimed at improving access to health care in rural communities. She continues to work with state leaders to ensure patients, particularly those in underserved and rural areas have access to quality vision and eye health services.
In addition to leading Brennan Eye Care, Dr. Bishop is deeply involved in the Okeechobee community through volunteer leadership and public service, reflecting her belief that improving lives begins with giving back.
“I am truly honored and grateful for this recognition,” Dr. Bishop said. “It has been a privilege to serve alongside so many dedicated colleagues who are passionate about advancing our profession and caring for our patients. This award reflects the incredible people I have had the opportunity to work with throughout my career. I look forward to continuing to advocate for our profession, our patients, and the rural communities we proudly serve.”
Dr. Bishop’s recognition highlights not only her contributions to optometry but also the impact that local health care professionals from Okeechobee continue to make across the State of Florida.
