OKEECHOBEE — In a unanimous vote, the Florida Senate passed Bill 774. This bill will benefit public safety telecommunicators, providing coverage for mental or nervous injuries received on the job. These coverages were previously limited to traditional first responders. The benefit will not be tied only to physical injuries, which changes the 2021 Florida Statute 440.093, which made it clear coverage was only available if the mental or nervous injury caused by a physical injury received on the job.
The bill is set to go into effect on July 1, 2026.
