OCSO warns of scam

Posted
OKEECHOBEE — We have had calls regarding several scams recently. Citizens in our community report receiving phone calls and texts from Apple Support stating that their bank account (easily accessed from their phone) had been hacked, and that they needed to withdraw funds from their account.

As the scam unfolded, the individual alluded to having eyes on the citizen; this has not been confirmed.

While this scam was in progress, another call was received stating that the citizen;s tax information had been hacked. Thankfully, this scam was stopped by family members who recognized that something was wrong before it proceeded any further.

Scammers have become very sophisticated, can sound very convincing, and will try to dissuade you from contacting anyone else to verify.

As a reminder, never give out your personal information. Your bank and phone company will not text you to warn you that you have been hacked. If you feel something is not right, then it probably isn’t. Call and report.
ocso, scam
