OKEECHOBEE — Several FFA teams were recognized at the meeting of the Okeechobee County School Board on Tuesday, April 14.
The OHS Dairy Judging Team was recognized first for placing first in the state championship. The YMS FFA Citrus Team placed fifth in the state championship, the YMS FFA Diary Judging Team finished in second place, and the YMS FFA Milk Quality Team finished in fourth place.
Another item discussed at the meeting was plans to put shelving into the art room at the Okeechobee Freshman Campus. Once the ninth graders join the other students on the new campus for Okeechobee High School, the art room will be turned into a vault for storing records. The board looked into digitizing all records, but the cost was estimated at approximately $350,000 to complete. The quote for the shelving is $30,732.20.
The board also approved the purchase of new playground equipment for Pineview Academy, expected to cost $101,041.24, and new furniture at $44,505.52.
Also of note, four more students have been expelled this school year for violating the Student Code of Conduct for use or possession of drugs. Two of them are students from Okeechobee Achievement Academy, a seventh and eleventh grader, one ninth grader from the Okeechobee Freshman Campus, and one senior from Okeechobee High School.
