Teen cuts mom with knife, tries to stab brother

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — A 17-year-old girl attacked her brother and mother with a kitchen knife Sunday afternoon, according to Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office reports. Blanca Hernandez was charged with two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one count battery on May 23 at approximately 4:45 p.m.

According to the arrest report, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Ramiro Doval was dispatched to the family’s home after a 911 call at about 3:30 p.m. When he arrived, he spoke with Hernandez’ brother, who told him his sister became angry when their mother would not allow her to take a four-wheeler. He said he heard the commotion from outside and ran in to see what was happening. He found his sister trying to shove past his mother into a bedroom. In an attempt to break up the altercation, he stepped between them, but this made his sister more angry and she began hitting him with her fists and then ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and began chasing him around the kitchen with it. At that point, he said his mother tried to stop her and stepped between them. Blanca swung the knife and sliced her mother’s hand and then walked outside still carrying the knife.

The deputy’s report also notes when asked if she wanted to speak to him, Hernandez said no and then spat on the window of his patrol car.

Hernandez’ mother was transported to Raulerson Hospital.

After her arrest, Hernandez was transferred to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
