OKEECHOBEE – The names of two service members who were killed in action will be added to the Veterans Memorial in Flagler Park.
At the Aug. 28 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission, Veterans Services Officer Paul Hiott said two Okeechobee County residents who died in service of their country are not on the memorial. Charles Sellers was killed in World War II. Lonnie White was in the Coast Guard during the Cold War and was killed in an accident when a Coast Guard vessel capsized.
A special ceremony in their honor is planned for Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial. Hiott said they chose this Saturday because it is the day before Gold Star Families Day, which is observed on the last Sunday in September.
