OKEECHOBEE — At their Aug. 13 meeting, Okeechobee County Commissioners declared September as Hunger Action Month, and presented a proclamation to Kevin Kline of Treasure Coast Food Bank.
The proclamation states: “Hunger continues to affect individuals of all ages throughout Okeechobee County and the state of Florida, including children, seniors, veterans, working families, and individuals experiencing temporary financial hardship.
“Food insecurity impacts educational achievement, physical and mental health, workforce productivity, and the overall quality of life within our communities.
“Local food banks, food pantries, faith-based organizations, schools, volunteers, businesses, agricultural producers, and charitable organizations work tirelessly throughout the year to provide meals, groceries, and support services to neighbors in need.
Florida Hunger Action Month serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of food insecurity, encourage community involvement, support local hunger relief organizations, and inspire individuals to act through volunteering, donating, and advocating for sustainable solutions to end hunger.
“The Board of County Commissioners recognizes the importance of partnerships among public agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community members in addressing hunger and ensuring that all residents have access to healthy, nutritious food.
“By working together, we can strengthen our community, support those facing food insecurity, and reaffirm our commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents of Okeechobee County.”
