MOORE HAVEN — One in four people tested in Glades County were positive for the COVID-19 virus.

As of the June 10 Florida Department of Health report, 410 people had been tested in Glades County, with 104 positive, for a positive rate of 25.4%.

One person has died, related to COVID-19; nine have been hospitalized.

The FDOH report for Glades County for June 10 shows 58 COVID-19 positive cases related to correctional facilities. (On the June 8 report, on 3 positives were attributed to correctional facilities in Glades County.) The June 10 from Florida Department of Corrections shows four of those cases are possibly related to the state prison Moore Haven Correctional Facility (operated by The GEO group). All four cases related to that facility are staff members. On the state report, detention staff members who test positive are counted in their county of residence.

The U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement website shows 61 detainees housed at the Glades County Detention Center have tested positive, with 60 currently under isolation or monitoring. (This newspaper has requested clarification from FDOH in regard to whether or not ICE detainees are included in the cases in correctional facilities listed in the county report. State prisoners are included in that number. County jail inmates are not.)
