LABELLE --All three Clewiston city commissioners on the ballot kept their seats Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the Hendry County Supervisor of Elections. Barbara Edmonds led the five-candidate field with 1,010 votes, followed by Mali Soto Gardner with 908 votes and Hillary Hyslope with 798 votes.

Edmonds and Gardner, the top two finishers, earn four-year terms; Hyslope, in third, earns a two-year term.

Voters also chose Rebekah Lewis for Port LaBelle Community Development District Seat 5 and Arthur M. Gallagher for Central County Water Control District Seat 4. Countywide, 10,175 ballots were cast, a 53.55% turnout.

“I’m incredibly grateful for your trust and confidence in allowing me to continue serving our community,” said Vice Mayor Hyslope after the victory. “Thank you to everyone who voted, encouraged me, and supported me throughout this campaign. Your kindness and support have meant so much.”

Incumbents Barbara Edmonds, Mali Soto Gardner and Hillary Hyslope faced challengers Jennifer Evans and Derrick S. Hughes. Hyslope finished 181 votes ahead of Evans for the third seat.
