It took two days but only six innings for the Lady Gators to put a convincing playoff win on their record in the regional softball tournament.
The Glades Day Lady Gators defeated Westwood Christian Lady Warriors 14-3 in the regional semifinal on May 10.
The game was originally scheduled for May 9, but was rained out shortly after Glades Day took a 3-0 lead. When the Lady Gators returned to the softball field at Glades Day High School at 1 p.m. the next day they were told the game had to be restarted from the beginning.
“We were able to combine hits and our defense grew stronger throughout the game,” said Paez.
Lady Gator Kennedy Derochers led the team with six RBIs, going 4 for 5 at the plate. Ruth Ann Lively hit a homerun in the game and went a perfect 4 for 4 with four RBIs.
During last years regional semifinal actually shutout the Lady Warriors in a 13-0 blowout.
The win now puts the Lady Gators two games away from an appearance in the state championship which is being held in Vero Beach. Coach Paez says her team seems ready to go. If the Lady Gators play with the kind of momentum they’ve had in their last few games, they should have a fair shot at a state title at the end of May.
