At their September 10 meeting LaBelle City Commissioners set the 2015-16 tentative millage rate 3.6046 with the roll back rate increased by 17.03 percent. They also adopted the proposed budget for 2015-16 of $11,163,140. Proposed operating budget expenditures are 1.2 percent less than 2014-15.
Once set, the tentative millage may be lowered, but it cannot be raised. The final approval will be at a special meeting to be held Thursday, September 24, at 5:04 p.m.
Increases in the 2015-16 expenses were due to a $52,000 increase in property insurance for the city’s water treatment plant and a 2.3 percent increase in health insurance rates. The city is also looking at capitol improvements at the civic center and city hall.
The budget reflects the city’s attempt to replenish its reserve funding.
It was noted that the new Walmart is expected to get a certificate of occupancy in May 2016 and will not go on the tax rolls until January 2017.
