Hendry County was well represented by their Board of County Commissioners during the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) annual conference June 26-30 in West Palm Beach, being one of only eight counties having all Commissioners in attendance.

The County Administrator and other staff members were also present at the conference to discuss issues facing the county.

The FAC conference brings together county leaders from across the state to discuss state legislation and generate ideas on how to best serve the residents of their respective counties on a local level.

Hendry County District 4 Commissioner and BOCC Chairman, Michael Swindle, was recognized by the FAC for his excellent service and leadership. Swindle was selected by the FAC as a 2017 Presidential Advocate—a recognition given to county commissioners who have shown exceptional leadership in partnering with the Association.

FAC Director of Public Policy, Davin J. Suggs, noted Swindle as having, “a strong commitment to address local and government issues and a dedication to improve and maintain a high quality of life for all Floridians.”

Commissioner Swindle was also appointed by the FAC as a Policy Leader of the Health, Human Services & Public Safety Committee for the Association.

The Commissioner’s role in the position as a policy leader will be to assist the Association in the development of policies which will guide the formation of their 2018 legislative session.

District 5 County Commissioner, Karson Turner, was also formally announced as the Association’s First Vice President of FAC. Turner has been serving in the role of Second Vice President for the past year and is the Association’s President-Elect for the 2017-2018 session.

Charlotte County Commissioner, Christopher Constance, was sworn in as the 2017 FAC President which kicks off two consecutive years of a Commissioner from Southwest Florida holding the position in the Association.
