Glades County is under a burn ban

Posted

MOORE HAVEN – Glades County is under a burn ban.

At their May 28 meeting, Glades County Commissioners voted unanimously to place a ban on all outdoor burning in the county.

“Right now, we currently have five active burns going on  in Glades County,” explained Fire Chief Lawrence Factor. “A lot of them have been going on and are being readdressed.”

“We have not received any rain in Glades County since the 16th of May and that was only 0.3 inches,” he continued. Due to the high drought index, Division of Forestry has encouraged a burn ban, he added.

“Anything that is set on fire is going to spread,” said the fire chief. “You can’t control it.” He asked for a burn ban until the county gets some “real rain.”

Other Florida counties under a burn ban as of May 29 were:  Brevard, Collier, DeSoto, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Polk, Sarasota and Seminole.
