LaBelle High outscored the state average graduation rate by over 6 percent. The school’s rate was 84 percent compared to the state average of 77.8 percent. While LaBelle High increased almost 10 percent this past year, the state grew by only 1.7 percent. Additionally, LHS has scored at or above the state average for 4 out of the past 5 years.

School officials say the school has accomplished this through the hard work and dedication of the school and district staff, students and parents. The commitment and support of the school board and community is greatly appreciated.

According to the Florida Department of Education website, for all of Hendry County the graduation rate improved to 76.8 percent, a 9.3 percentage point increase over last year and 11.2 percentage points since 2010-11

The website explains that “Florida’s graduation rate is a cohort graduation rate. A cohort is defined as a group of students on the same schedule to graduate. The graduation rate measures the percentage of students who graduate within four years of their first enrollment in ninth grade. Entering transfer students are also included in the graduation rate for the class with which they are scheduled to graduate, based on their date of enrollment. In the calculation, stringent guidelines are prescribed for not only the definition of a graduate, but also for the definition of a transfer student.

Florida’s graduation rate only considers standard diploma recipients as graduates in the calculation. Students who earn a special diploma, a GED-based diploma, a certificate of completion, or have been retained and are still in school after four years are counted as non-completers in the calculation. Florida’s graduation rate has risen by 7.2 percentage points since 2010-11 and 18.6 percentage points since 2003-04.
