LABELLE -- The Hendry County School Board recognized the LaBelle Cowboy varsity football team during their meeting on Nov. 18.
The Cowboys completed a historic undefeated regular season this year, going 10-0. The LaBelle defense secured seven shutouts, while allowing only 39 points. On offense, junior Marquay Bradshaw rushed for over 1000 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Hendry Schools director of athletics Roberto Sanchez credited the Cowboys coaching staff and the players for developing a culture of hard work and preparation that led to their success.
“It is a true honor to recognize a special and historic achievement in the history of LaBelle athletics,” said Hendry Schools director of athletics Roberto Sanchez. “This achievement reflects the hard work, discipline, mindset and unity of the entire program. The results speak for themselves. We proudly celebrate this team and their historic season.”
Following their 10-0 regular season, Cowboys coach Maurice McClain Sr. thanked the LaBelle community for their support.
“From the packed stands on Friday nights to the cheers that fueled us through every tough play, your energy was our twelfth man,” said McClain. We felt your support at every single game, home and away, and it meant the world to every player and coach. To everyone who volunteered, donated, showed up, and believed in us—thank you. You are the heart of this program.”
Superintendent Michael Swindle reported that whenever he watched the Cowboys play, he could see the work the team had done throughout the offseason paying off in how they performed.
“I hope you springboard from this incredible accomplishment in your life to the next,” said Superintendent Swindle. “No matter what that may be. It’s going to look different for each of you. But I bet some of the lessons you learned while on that field will be what helps get you there.”
