LABELLE – A Lehigh Acres man was killed in an accident on State Road 80 at Birchwood Parkway in Hendry County on May 23.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, at 7:05 a.m., an 18-year-old LaBelle man was driving a Sports Utility Vehicle north on Birchwood Parkway. At the same time, a 58-year-old Lehigh Acres man was driving a dump truck west on State Road 80 in the outside lane.
The SUV failed to yield to approaching traffic and traveled into the direct path of the truck, according to the FHP report.
The front right portion of the dump truck collided with the right side of the SUV.
Post collision, the dump truck continued traveling west, rotated, and overturned onto the north grass shoulder. The driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver received minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
