Sergeant Deighton Bolt was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Jamaica before moving to Port Charlotte, Florida. Although he previously lived in Hendry County for four years, Sgt. Bolt currently resides in Charlotte County and commutes to LaBelle each day. He is happily married with two beautiful children.
Sgt. Bolt has worked for the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office for almost 8 years. He attended South Florida State College for his law enforcement officer (LEO) certification.
Upon a first encounter with Sgt. Bolt, one might find him a bit intimidating. He towers over most, but has a smile that will draw in even some of the weariest observers. Strangely enough, his huge presence is calming and reassuring. The citizens of Hendry County can certainly feel safe and secure when Sgt. Bolt is on duty.
When asked why he chose law enforcement as his career path, Sgt. Bolt stated that “I wanted to help people in need and be an educator for those going down the wrong path.” He is one of the many law enforcement officers who simply cares enough about others to put his life on the line each and every day.
As the Chief Bailiff, Sgt. Bolt ensures the safety and security of courthouse personnel, as well as the citizens there during their visit. He has many responsibilities, which include having appropriate staffing for each courtroom, handling issues that may arise throughout the day, ensuring the safety of the judges and answering generalized questions from the public.
Humbly, Sgt. Bolt noted, “though there is a tremendous amount of responsibility that goes into the daily operations of maintaining the flow in the courthouse, I would not be able to handle all duties without the assistance of the deputies that work alongside me. I think we make a great team!” Having the desire to continue his education and knowledge, Sgt. Bolt has attended several advanced and specialized courses during his 15 years in law enforcement. In order to be a more well-rounded individual and a productive member of the HCSO, he has focused many of his training courses around management and leadership. He has had the opportunity to be a K-9 handler, as well as a member of the Special Response team for Hendry County. In addition, Sgt. Bolt has taught the Citizen’s Academy in Hendry County, where he has given demonstrations of both K-9 handling and Special Response team tactics.
In his free time, this 6’8” tower of a man is an avid gamer and loves spending time with his family. When possible, he enjoys traveling to new places with his family and experiencing new foods. Recently finding a new hobby, Sgt. Bolt is getting the hang of smoking meats on his new smoker. Given that he is continuously being asked when the next cookout is going to be, he must be doing something right.
