Widows to meet

The Widows Support Group will meet February 18 at 11:30 a.m. at the Quart House. All widows welcome.

Family friendly Block Party

The SCF invites everyone to a hometown get together at the LaBelle Wharf Friday, Feb. 19, 6-10 p.m. Local vendors only will serve meals. Bands will provide the entertainment and there will be free cupcakes!

Kick off Party

Feb. 20, Sat. 5-11 p.m. Swamp Cabbage Family Kick-Off Party. The Lester Beleau Band plays live behind the Legion Post 6-10 p.m. No cover! Food, seasoned boiled swamp cabbage! Parking at Life Ministries Church $3. Karaoke inside from 7 p.m. Open to the public this weekend!

Night on the Town

The LaBelle Chamber of Commerce invites you to the annual Night on the Town, Tuesday, February 23, from 5-8 p.m. on Fort Thompson Ave. Enjoy an evening of food, entertainment and shopping while supporting our local businesses and neighbors!

Old Timers

February 25, at LaBelle Civic Center. Tickets available at LaBelle Heritage Museum. Doors open 5 p.m, dinner 6:00. Silent auction, live auction with the crowd favorite cake auction. Wild game dinner

First Christian Church Disciple Men’s Annual Wild Game Dinner will be February 20 5-7 p.m. Just a $10 donation! The church is located at 138 Ford Ave. 863-675-1366.

Conservation board to meet

The Hendry Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its regularly scheduled Board meeting on February 25, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the large conference room of the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Building. Meetings are open to the public.

Cowadunga!

Country Oaks Elementary School will host its annual Cowadunga fundraiser on Thursday, February 25, starting at 4 pm. Please come join us for an action packed afternoon of games, student choral performances, yummy food, and of course, the main event: cow “business.”

To purchase a plot in hopes of the cow doing his “business” in your square, please stop by the school’s office or call 863-674-4140. Plots are $7 for one or 2 for $10. The winner will receive $1,000. Thank you for supporting Country Oaks Elementary School!

‘We All Need Trees’ poster extension

The Hendry Soil and Water Conservation District has extended its first poster contest based on the NACD theme “We All Need Trees” until February 19 in order to let Hendry County K-8th grade students more time to get their entries completed. Poster board and entry forms are still available in our office in the Dallas Townsend Ag Building on Pratt Blvd. LaBelle, or call Noreen at 863-674-5700 ext. 107 for details.

Gardeners to meet

The LaBelle Garden Club will meet Monday, February 22, at 7 p.m. for a talk by Sonja Crawford on how the kids in 4-H cultivate their beautiful vegetable garden. It will be at the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Center in LaBelle at 1085 Pratt Blvd. LaBelle.

Hookers and Needlers

Hookers and Needlers Club of LaBelle will meet Thursday, February 25, 3 p.m. at the offices of Lori M. Shula, 825 E Cowboy Way # 106 for an hour of inspirational exchange of ideas, techniques and skills.

The Club is accepting leftover yarns and supplies which will be turned into handmade goods to be distributed to the community. Free patterns and personalized instructions available. Call 230-292-4458 for more information.

Free vessel safety checks

Join Vessel examiners from U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 9-4 and Water Safety Educators from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in celebrating the 2016 Swamp Cabbage Festival Saturday, February 27, 10 a.m.– 2 p.m. at the North Boat Ramp-LaBelle, FL.

The U. S. Army Corps will be providing boating, water safety & Lake Okeechobee information. The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Will Be Conducting free vessel safety checks

This is not A Law Enforcement Function. There will be no penalties. Passing vessels get a safety check decal that may qualify you for a boat insurance discount

Ortona Bingo

The Ortona Community Association (OCA) is hosting Bingo every Friday evening through the winter season. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. when hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken patties, snacks , ice cream, coffee and soft drinks are sold. The last cards are sold at 6:45 p.m. and Bingo begins promptly at 7 p.m.

Bingo and other OCA sponsored events are held in Ortona’s spacious new community center, located in the Ortona Community Park, 2086 Ortona Locks Road (Hwy 78A) The park is approximately 500 feet beyond the Ortona Firehouse.
