SCF Country Western Dance The Hendry County Cattle Women’s Association is pleased to host the 2016 Swamp Cabbage Country Western Dance. It is being held 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, at the LaBelle Civic Center. Anyone 18 or older is welcome. There is a $20 admission charge, which includes cooler fees (no glass containers please). Live entertainment will be provided by the Derrick Scott Band. Proceeds from the dance will be used to support the HCCWA’s scholarship fund for deserving college students. Call 863-674-4092 for further information. Car show On February 27, 2016, the 10th Annual Legends of the Road Super Cruise and Show will be held on North Lee Street at 8 a.m. The event is being hosted by the South Central Florida Car Club. All motor heads are welcome to come and show off their rides. All makes and models are welcome- as long as it has wheels, dust her off and come out and have a great day. Over 50 trophy’s will be awarded- Dash plaques to the first 200. We will have a 50/50 and door prizes too. Registration is $15 at the gate day of the show. Need more info, call 863-634-1791. See ya there. SCF Parade The Swamp Cabbage Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday on Bridge Street, near the Family Dollar. The parade will travel along Bridge Street to Barron Park and around to Main Street. Streets and the Caloosahatchee Bridge will be closed during this event. Arrive early to find parking and viewing spots. Parade participants will be tossing candy, so please make sure all children are supervised. Fishing Tournament Sponsored by the Lee County Bass Anglers, fishermen hit the Caloosahatchee River long before daylight and compete for trophies, cash prizes and bragging rights. Trophies and payout awarded at Barron Park by the river, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Rodeo Across town, the Cattleman’s Association will host a rodeo Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the rodeo grounds, 100 Rodeo Drive (off SR 29S) 6 p.m. Friday, February 26 Noon. JoAnn Ivy benefit A benefit to help Joanne Ivy with medical expenses is planned for Saturday, March 3, beginning at 8 a.m. Come to this unique yard sale at 4023 S. Edgewater Circle. Special collectible dolls, including Princess Diana, an antique clown and an iron angel will be raffled off. JoAnn has been struggling with one medical hardship after another resulting in extreme medical expenses for doctors, medications and transportation. She is willing to cook fundraising dinners and can do things like house sit or walk a small quiet dog and sewing. A benefit account is set up at Florida Community Bank for donations. Although fewer USA women than men are infected with HIV, women are actually more biologically susceptible to infection if exposed. Among adult Florida women living with HIV disease through 2014, 72 percent were aged 40 or older.
