Out and About in LaBelle for the Week of 4-14-16

There’s nothing like dinner and a show!

Come join the fun this Saturday night, April 16, with some of LaBelle’s premier singers as the American Legion and All Starr Karaoke present the A.S.K.E. Awards and Dinner Show. The evening starts out with a delicious meal of Chicken Alfredo and sides for a donation of $8 from 5-7 p.m., and then the stars will shine, as we listen to some the best of LaBelle. This show is an ongoing presentation, by All Starr Karaoke in conjunction with the AML that keeps getting better each year. Last year’s Entertainers of the Year Matt and Sandra Howard will be the co-hosts and presenters and will be sure to bring lots of fun to the stage. All this performed on in the non-smoking hall where the show starts at 6:50. There is no charge for the awards show. Public is welcome for dinner and to stay for the show.

Church anniversary

Prevailing Word Christian Center, 262 Tobias Ave., Moore Haven, is celebrating its 11th anniversary Sunday, April 17, at 10 a.m. The theme will be Pressing Toward The Mark Of The High Calling In Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 14). Guest speaker Pastor Lillie Poles of the New Life Bible Learning Center in Clewiston.

Operation Cleansweep

Operation Cleansweep is a mobile pesticide collection program that provides a safe way to dispose of cancelled, suspended, and unusuable pesticides. Some examples of participants: Farms/Groves, Nurseries, Pest Control Services, Greenhouses, Golf Courses etc. In an effort to use all remaining funds, Fresh From Florida is waiving the 750 lb limit for qualifying material and are also allowing other entities such as government, schools, institutions, etc. to participate for free up to the time funds are depleted for this program year.

Swing into Spring

Joint Service Area meeting

The Glades Hendry Joint Service Area LCB is holding their Annual Public Hearing and would like to hear from you. The LCB is made up of local elected officials, agencies and citizens who mission is to make sure that the citizens of Glades and Hendry Counties receive the transportation they need. The LaBelle Community Woman’s Club will hold its First Ever Fit & Pretty expo on April 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (FREE admission!) at the clubhouse on Hwy. 80 beside Ace Hardware. They will be having experts in fitness, diet, wellness, beauty and more. Local businesses participating include Parrish Chiropractic, Younique, Young Living Oils, Fitness Outlawz, MaryKay, ItWorks!, HerbaLife, Scentsy, DoTerra, Keto, Nerium, and more! Attendees will receive goodie bags while they last. The experts will be providing information, samples, make-up applications, massages, oil treatments and more! Gardeners to meet

The LaBelle Garden Club will meet Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Center in LaBelle at 1085 Pratt Blvd. LaBelle. Lewis Marotti, local landscaper, will give a talk on “Landscaping 101, How to Landscape your House.” Refreshments served. Bring a treat if you’d like to share something. Costa Rica Program

The April Hendry-Glades Audubon program, “Costa Rica Adventure” will be presented by Julie Jeffers, Hendry-Glades Audubon Board Member. This free event will be held Monday, April 18, at the Hendry County Cooperative Extension Dallas Townsend Building located at 1085 Pratt Blvd. in LaBelle at 7 p.m. Celebrate Spring by donating books,  photographs and other items that can be repurposed to the free raffle drawing to be held for meeting participants at the end of the meeting. Real People, Real Lives

The Florida Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties wishes to extend an invitation to view THE FACES OF AIDS Project. Touring statewide, a mobile art exhibit displays portraits of ten Floridians living with HIV/AIDS who share their experiences through video interviews and journaling. The project hopes to reduce the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. These are real people, not merely statistics. The mobile unit will be in Fort Myers April 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Florida SouthWestern State College, Lee Campus Breezeway, 8099 College Pkwy., Fort Myers.

Hot Rides and Hog Dogs

On April 19 from 5-7 pm the South Central Florida Car Club, will host its monthly Hot Rides and Hot Dogs in the Park Cruise in. This event is open to all area auto enthusiasts. Come on out for a fun evening, and enjoy a hot dog and drink with other like minded folks. So dust off your ride, and head on over to Barron Park, on SR 29N. Need more info call 863-634-1791.

Domestic pig found

The Hendry  County Sheriff’s Office Ag Unit responded to the area of SR 29 South on Sunday, April 3rd and found a domestic pig running loose on the highway. The pig was safely captured and impounded.  If you are missing a domestic pig, please contact the Ag Unit at 863-674-5600.

Preschool story time

Pre-School Story Time at the library has been moved to Monday The event will still begin at 10:30 a.m. A new, fun, learning activity for your preschool children every week.  For further information or any questions, call 863-675-0833.
