Summer camp at Carlson

Carlson Kids Camp (formerly VBS) will be held from June 27 through July 1. It’s for kids from age 3 to those who have completed 4th grade.  We will start at 8:45 am and go until 12:45 pm.  We will have worship and music, Bible Study, art, games, lunch and much more.  COME JOIN THE FUN!

Sign up to volunteer or register your child on our website at www.CarlsonUMC.org.  There is no charge for Kids Camp. Carlson Memorial United Methodist Church, 310 Campbell Street, LaBelle   863-675-0656.

Cinco de Mayo at Barron Library

May 7 10 a.m.-1 p.m. celebrate Mexican culture. Learn to make tamales and a pinata. Trivia, taco eating contest provided by Gemelas Food Store.

Traditional arts and crafts, musical entertainment. Learn the Mexican Hat Dance.  Call Barron Library at 863-675-0833 for details.

Humane society desserts in Clewiston

Caloosa Humane Society needs YOUR dessert!  We are shaking things up and taking our Dessert Auction to Clewiston.  Auction date: Thursday, May 6, at 6 p.m./ Clewiston Elks Lodge, located at 250 N. Francisco Street.

Drop off at LaBelle Community Woman’s Club between noon and 4 p.m. or Clewiston Elks Lodge between noon 5. Thank you!

We are pleased to have Tim Haley as our auctioneer. Light refreshments will be served.  100 percent of the money raised will benefit the homeless pets at Caloosa Humane Society, your local no-kill shelter! Thank you and we hope to see you there.

Scholarship opportunity for FSW graduates

The Rotary Club of LaBelle is offering a scholarship to a student who has attended and graduated from Florida Southwestern College (or will graduate by August) and will be attending a public university or college in the State of Florida in the fall as a junior.

There are some specific requirements applicants must meet. For more details and to request an application you can send an e-mail to jordan2200@embarqmail.com or request one from the Financial Aid office of Florida Southwestern College.

Applications must be submitted and received by midnight May 20, 2016.

Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Members of the LaBelle Kiwanis and Gathering of Christian Men of LaBelle invite all to join them at the LaBelle Civic Center on Thursday, May 5, at 7 a.m. as they observe the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and the National  Day of Prayer.

The doors open and breakfast being served at 6:30 a.m. and every effort will be made to conclude by 8:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited.

Mosquito control

Hendry County will be conducting aerial adult mosquito control operations over the county as mosquito population levels warrant.

These operations will continue throughout the remainder of the year. The treatments will be performed during evening hours, weather permitting.

The insecticide to treat for adult mosquitoes is approved for application by the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Florida. This operation will be conducted by Clarke.

If you have questions concerning this operation, please call Clarke at 800-443-2034 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Operation Cleansweep

Operation Cleansweep is a mobile pesticide collection program that provides a safe way to dispose of cancelled, suspended, and unusable pesticides.

Some examples of participants: Farms/Groves, Nurseries, Pest Control Services, Greenhouses, Golf Courses etc.

In an effort to use all remaining funds, Fresh From Florida is waiving the 750 lb limit for qualifying material and are also allowing other entities such as government, schools, institutions, etc. to participate for free up to the time funds are depleted for this program year. Joint Service Area meeting

The Glades Hendry Joint Service Area LCB is holding their Annual Public Hearing and would like to hear from you.

The LCB is made up of local elected officials, agencies and citizens who mission is to make sure that the citizens of Glades and Hendry Counties receive the transportation they need. May 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., Where: Glades County Department of Health , 1021 Health Park Drive, Moore Haven.

Library moves preschool story time

Pre-School Story Time at the library has been moved to a new day, Monday The event will still begin at 10:30 a.m., just on a different day.  There will be a new, fun, learning activity for your preschool children every week.  For further information or any questions, call 863-675-0833. Horse found

Last week, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office recovered a horse that was running loose on the road in the Montura area of Clewiston. If you’ve lost a horse, please contact the Ag Unit at 863-674-5600.
