Gathering of Christian Men to meet
All men of LaBelle and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the May 16, meeting of A Gathering of Christian Men of LaBelle. Our potluck dinner meeting will be held at Healing Waters Family Life Center, 4501 Birchwood Parkway, LaBelle. We will start at 6:30 p.m. with our meal and then a message from one of our members and business will be conducted as necessary, and then we will close with prayer. Gospel music concert
Trust Quartet singing Gaither style songs in four-part harmony are scheduled to perform in concert on May 22 at 11 a.m. at Moore Haven Church of God. The exciting Trust Quartet, a Florida-based Nashville recorded mixed group will perform with their enthusiastic approach to some of gospel’s finest songs. Trust not only has great harmony but also a unique ministering ability with song. You will not want to miss this opportunity to enjoy a great concert.
Summer camp at Carlson
Carlson Kids Camp (formerly VBS) will be held from June 27 through July 1. It’s for kids from age 3 to those who have completed 4th grade. We will start at 8:45 am and go until 12:45 pm. We will have worship and music, Bible Study, art, games, lunch and much more. COME JOIN THE FUN!

Help plan Fallen Hero’s event
Fallen Hero’s planning meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, May 14, at the American Legion Hall at 9:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to volunteer for the annual fund raiser is welcome to come.
Birds Day Camp
All About Birds Day Camp and Field Trip for youth ages 5– 8 (as of September 1, 2015) at the Hendry County Extension Service in LaBelle on May 26 and May 27 beginning at 9 a.m. both days! Youth will become a Citizen Scientist while learning about birds. Youth will also learn how to collect data for real time bird studies, play fun games and enjoy touring on the field trip.
If you need a ride from Clewiston, be at the Clewiston 4-H office at 8 a.m. You may register by calling 863-983-1598 or 863-674-4092. Space is limited and on first come first serve basis so be sure to call the 4-H office as soon as possible. There is no charge; however, you are required to bring your lunch and wear closed toes shoes.
Citrus for homeowners
The Edible Gardening Exchange’s March speaker will be Dr. Mongi Zekri, southwest Florida Multi-County Citrus Agent. He provides educational opportunities in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties. Dr. Zekri will explain basic homeowner citrus care including citrus greening.
Join other edible gardeners on Thursday, May 19th at 6:30pm at the North Fort Myers Rec Center located at 2000 N Recreation Park Way in North Fort Myers. Arrive at 5:30pm for an open and informal chat on edible topics. Consider bringing something to share with other gardeners (seeds, plants, a snack). Bring your own cup for free coffee and tea.
All fees are paid at the front desk. Fee for the monthly summer classes from April to September is $10. In addition, a Lee Parks and Rec lifetime membership card is also required which is a one-time fee of $10 per person. Memory mobile coming
Visitors to the Memory Mobile can obtain a confidential memory screening; receive literature and resources related to Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and caregiver concerns, and talk with an Alzheimer’s Association Program Specialist about specific needs /concerns. Hot Rides and Hot Dogs
On May 17, 2016 the South Central Florida Car Club will host it’s final Hot Rides & Hot Dogs in the Park Cruise In. This event will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Barron Park, on St Rd 29 N in LaBelle, If you like things with wheels, you need to come out and join us for fun filled night. We grill up some hot dogs, pass great sides and wash it all down with cold drinks. So dust off your ride and head to the park. Need more info call 863-634-1791.
Gardeners to meet
The LaBelle Garden Club will meet Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m. at the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Center in LaBelle, 1085 Pratt Blvd. We will have a potluck dinner with refreshments served. Operation Cleansweep
Operation Cleansweep is a mobile pesticide collection program that provides a safe way to dispose of cancelled, suspended, and unusable pesticides. Some examples of participants: Farms/Groves, Nurseries, Pest Control Services, Greenhouses, Golf Courses etc. In an effort to use all remaining funds, Fresh From Florida is waiving the 750 lb limit for qualifying material and are also allowing other entities such as government, schools, institutions, etc. to participate for free up to the time funds are depleted for this program year.

Scholarship opportunity for FSW graduates
The Rotary Club of LaBelle is offering a scholarship to a student who has attended and graduated from Florida Southwestern College (or will graduate by August) and will be attending a public university or college in the State of Florida in the fall as a junior. There are some specific requirements applicants must meet. The Glades Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the large conference room of the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Building. Meetings are open to the public.
Library moves preschool story time
Pre-School Story Time at the library has been moved to a new day, Monday The event will still begin at 10:30 a.m., just on a different day. Mosquito control
Hendry County will be conducting aerial adult mosquito control operations over the county as mosquito population levels warrant. These operations will continue throughout the remainder of the year. The treatments will be performed during evening hours, weather permitting. The insecticide to treat for adult mosquitoes is approved for application by the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Florida. This operation will be conducted by Clarke.

STA 5/6 (Stormwater Treatment Area 5)
Walk or bicycle on over 20 miles of levee roads at SFWMD’s STA 5/6 (Stormwater Treatment Area 5/6) during daylight hours four days each week on Friday, Saturday, Sunday (except for fall/winter hunting), and Monday. This popular site known for bird watching, wildlife viewing, photography, hiking, or bicycling is located 28 miles south of Clewiston. Park at the STA 5/6 public access area which is 2 ½ miles east of the CR 835 and Deer Fence Canal Road intersection. Watch for the directional signs on CR 835. Amenities at STA 5/6 include 2 shelters and dry vault toilets.
