Florida officials are working with the fashion industry to increase efforts to remove invasive Burmese pythons from the Florida Everglades.
“They hit the Paris fashion show and took it by storm,” Commissioner Rodney Barreto explained at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Nov. 5 meeting in Belle Glade. He said python belts, wallets and purses are in style.
Earlier this year Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a partnership between FWC and Inversa, turning the problem of invasive Burmese pythons into a state-backed initiative for luxury fashion accessories.
According to the report shared at the Nov. 5 FWC meeting at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade, python leather products were a hit at the Parish Fashion Week shows in October. Designers like Gabriela Hearst Partnered with Inversa to incorporate invasive Burmese python skins from the Everglades in their designs.
Luxury python skin wallets are also on sale at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.
