Say Yes more often

In this day and age it’s very easy to get caught up in our busy-ness and allow our schedules to dictate the direction of our days. It’s very easy for us to let the monotony of our duties shift us into autopilot day in and day out and we find ourselves complaining that everyday is the same as if we are stuck in a “Groundhog Day” re-living each day with no sense of spontaneity or adventure; but we all long for adventure and something new don’t we?

We pray for new ventures, for vacations, for holidays, for anything that’s out of the ordinary. We yearn for an answer to “How’s it going?” That’s something other than “Oh, you know, same old same old!”.

But the truth is that we are presented with opportunity for adventure everyday. The friend who may be feeling blue and wants to get out of the house asks you to accompany her to the movies just for a girls day out, but because you remember the three loads of laundry you didn’t get to over the weekend you decline the offer. Our kids want us to go to the park run around with them but the deadline is hovering on our latest work project and so we plop them down in the back seat with a tablet while rushing hurriedly to our next meeting. If we are honest with ourselves we have to admit that there ARE chances to make choices that can take us out of the rut of our boredom, but because of our sense of responsibility we don’t take the time to pursue those adventures.

We all know that what you give you get; every major religion in the world tells us so. Karma, the law of attraction, reaping what you sow, it’s all different verbiage for the same concept: what you give your attention to shows up more and more in your experience, so, when you take a chance to say “forget the laundry for another day...today let’s go to the park and run around like crazy four year olds” you’re sending a signal that says “YES! I’m down to play. I’m down for adventure. I’m open to having more fun.” And when you send that signal you open up the floodgates for more and more opportunities for adventure and spontaneous fun to present itself to you. So I encourage you to say “YES!” more often and let the joy find you in the unexpected, unplanned, and maybe a little irresponsible moments that life can present to you.
