Good question. When I hear that question, an old hymn comes to mind: “Every time I feel the Spirit, moving in my heart, I will pray,” is the first line. While God does indeed make that happen at any time on any day, it happens especially on Sunday morning. When the Holy Spirit of God moves us to be part of a faith community, we have an expectation that this same Spirit will bring us to a special time of worship with other Christians. That’s why Sunday worship is so important to our Christian faith and growth. Worship in community brings us uniquely close to the heart of God.
Some of us as children were forced to go to church on Sundays; I was one of those children! But God used that time to show me a particular pastor who changed my life. He had a glow about him that was special, and I remember thinking, “I don’t know what he has, but I want it!” We all should want it! It’s the presence of the Holy Spirit…
There is famous painting of Jesus, holding a lantern, knocking on someone’s front door. If you look closely at the door, you see there is no door knob on the outside! The only way Jesus can enter is if you open the door from the inside. Keep your faith priorities in order. Find a church home because, while the world will disappoint you, the Spirit of God will not!
