Okeechobee 4-H, in partnership with the Children’s Services Council of Okeechobee County, will offer a wide variety of camps to the youth in the Okeechobee community this summer.

Camp registration will open on May 1.

Students who will be in grades 10-12 in the 2019-20 school year may apply to be teen counselors at the 4-H camps. Teen counselors receive credit for community service hours. Anyone interested in applying may stop by the Okeechobee County Extension Office, 458 U.S. 98, to pick up an application. Interviews for teen counselors will begin the week of May 13. Teens are expected to treat this as they would a job interview. Adult volunteers are also needed for the summer camps. Stop by the Extension Office to pick up an application.

Youth camps include:
• H2O Encounter camp will be offered the weeks of June 10-14, June 24-28 and July 22-26. H2O Encounter is an environmental day camp that explores various water resources in south Florida. Open to all youth ages 8-18.

• Blast to the Past History camp will be offered the weeks of June 17-21 and July 15-19. Campers will visit South Florida historical sites and museums. The camp is open to all youth ages 8-18.

• Farm to Plate — We Educate camp will be offered the weeks of July 15-19 and July 29-Aug. 2. Participants will visit local dairy, beef and apiary operations as well as cook local agricultural products and explore the natural resources of Okeechobee. The camp is open to all youth entering fifth grade through 12th.

• Just Horsing Around Day Camp will be offered the week of June 24-28. Campers are provided riding and lesson time in the saddle. Campers experience horse activities geared toward developing riders. Campers bring their own horse and supplies. Open to all youth ages 8-18. Horses may stay in stalls at the facility for the week or may be transported each day. Vaccination records are required for the horses.

• Shooting Sports Camp will be offered July 8-12. This camp teaches conservation and ecology practices through field trips and hands-on activities. The camp is open to all youth ages 10-18.
