OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman football team is gearing up to start their season.
The Brahmans have been practicing at the Okeechobee Freshman Campus due to construction at the high school. Construction crews are hard at work on completing the new Okeechobee High School leading up to its opening next year.
The kids finally got their first practice on the OHS football field on Aug. 8, as they prepare to face Joaquin Garcia in the Kickoff Classic on Aug. 15. Head coach BJ Pryor says practicing at the Freshman Campus has been an adjustment, but nothing the team couldn’t handle.
“It was pretty trying for our players, making that adjustment,” said Pryor. “But now that we’ve been there a couple weeks, we’ve settled in. Consistency is important to me and the coaching staff. It wasn’t easy the first three of four days. But it’s not something that has been a mountain in our way.”
Returning this year to lead the offense are senior quarterback Chris Evans, and senior running back Jaleik Brifil. Senior Kyler Campbell is playing on both sides of the ball this year, as a wide receiver and safety. Senior Jacob Davis should be an anchor on the defensive line for Okeechobee.
Brifil had 1385 yards on the ground last season for Okeechobee.
The Brahmans have 16 seniors in the program this year, many who have been with the coach Pryor for four years now.
The Brahmans will be on the road for their Kickoff Classic, traveling to Lake Worth in Palm Beach County on Aug. 15 to play Joaquin Garcia. After that, the season officially kicks off in the first game of the regular season on Aug. 22 with Okeechobee traveling to DeSoto to take on the Bulldogs.
